Redesign a gas validation tool. This tool is used to validate the created gases by the gas analyzers TE INSTRUMENTS produces and sells. Currently TE INSTRUMENTS utilizes gas validation tools which are not mass producible and have practical issues.

We designed a gas validation tool which was both producible, practical, viable and complied to all the required norms and requirements so it could receive a CE-mark.

PROBLEM:

The current gas validation tool is not mass producible, is cumbersome to handle and has practical issues during use, such as the fact that it has to be kept in place using a rubber band. The tool also does not fit into the product line.

RESEARCH:

Thorough research went into the most optimal component layout, the most optimal shape, the most fitting look and feel into the product line and thought went into solving the practical issues the current tool had.

SOLUTION:

We fixed this by designing a validation tool which was fully producible, complied to all the relevant norms and regulations, had the design style of the TE INSTRUMENTS brand and which had a reversible clip so it would both protect the screen during transport and act as a hanging hook so the current rubber band fastening could be eliminated.

/What did I learn?

I learned how to comply to relevant norms and regulations so a CE mark could be applied to a product. I also learned more about producibility considerations for injection moulding.
